Implementing Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors to Diverse Families

Developed by Latino parents, for Latino parents with children ages 0-5, Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors (AP/OD) utilizes teaching and learning by centering its sessions around the lived experiences of parents and caregivers. Since its inception in 2007, the model has been adapted to other cultural and linguistic contexts.
Drawing on the combined knowledge and experience of an AP/OD certified 3rd Edition facilitator/trainer this workshop will explore ideas for how to adapt AP/OD to meet the needs of diverse families. Learn about the unique opportunities and special factors they have encountered elevating their work with Chinese families in their community. During the workshop, we will also hear from the perspective of a parent guest who will share their experience taking the AP/OD program.

Presenter: Julianne Rositas, MPA, MSEd,
Julianne Rositas has 20+ years’ experience working with parents/caregivers and families and is the Parent Education Program Manager at Family Paths. Julianne has a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science in Education and she also holds four evidence-based parent education certifications. Julianne is a certified Abriendo Puertas / Opening Doors Parent Education Facilitator and Trainer-the-Trainer. She had trained 40+ AP/OD facilitators in Alameda county and her team has provided AP/OD in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, English, & Spanish). She is also a Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) Practitioner, a certified Nurturing Parent Facilitator, and a certified positive discipline parent educator.
Julianne is also a trained Fatherhood Group Facilitator and has 15+ years’ experience as a Community College Educator/Trainer, Program consultant, and Grant writer. Julianne also participates in the Trauma Informed Systems Champions Learning initiative and she is a member of Family Paths Trauma Informed Care Committee.
